An Empowering HBAC
What is an HBAC? It’s short for Home Birth After Cesarean. It means that someone who previously had a c-section had or is planning a vaginal birth this time, and is also birthing at home. There’s often something extra empowering about both VBAC’s and homebirths in general, so combining the two has the potential for a truly transformative experience. One of my (Kara Jo) favorite things about birth is when a mother is amazed at her own strength, surprised by her tenacity, and exhilarated in accomplishing something she’d longed to do.
Our VBAC mothers tend to be among the most prepared for birth. They know what they want to be different about this birth and often go to great lengths readying their body, mind, and soul for this monumental event. They understand that birth shapes you, stays with you, and tailors how you view your own strength and capabilities. It was a tremendous honor to witness this mother display such grit, perseverance, and raw beauty as she brought her baby into the world in the way she had so desired to do.
She was also supported by the skilled midwifery team at Earth Mother Midwife, as well as by her husband and her older son. Big Brother was sure proud to be a part of coaching his mama and witnessing his baby brother’s dramatic entrance!
